Valentin Zellweger is Ambassador of Switzerland to Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda and Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the Office of the United Nations in Nairobi.
After submitting his doctoral thesis in international law at the University of Basel, Ambassador Zellweger joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in 1991. He worked at the Swiss Embassy in Kenya and the Swiss Mission to the United Nations in New York. From 2003 and 2007, he served as Chef de Cabinet of the first President of the International Criminal Court in The Hague during the setting up phase of the newly established Court.
Back in Switzerland, he worked at the Directorate of International Law of the FDFA, which he headed as Legal Adviser of the FDFA from 2010 to 2016. From 2016 to 2020, Ambassador Zellweger was Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations and the other international organizations in Geneva, representing Switzerland as the Host State as well as a Member State.
