MEIG MASTER OF ADVANCED STUDIES EUROPEAN AND INTERNATIONAL GOVERNANCE MEIG Partnerships

the most valuable part of the programme is the people

Ms. Olha Krylova, MEIG Graduate 2021-2022, Ukraine

The MEIG is a unique programme with a strategic location in Geneva and is a perfect combination of international academic expertise and preparation for the labour market. The most vital is that it includes not only a theory but also a practice. For instance, today you may have a brilliant introduction to peace and security and the application of IHL in armed conflicts, and tomorrow you will have a class with experts from the field, who have been recently deployed on the land and today stand before you, sharing their own experience. So, it is always a balance of theory and practice.

Having a legal background and experience in diplomacy before, I was failing to answer many controversial issues. But if you look at the same issues from the perspective of governance, it allows for finding unexpected answers. The MEIG permits understanding the decision-making processes of various actors, big powers, and nations. The interdisciplinary approach gives a deep understanding of the interconnectivity of different areas like trade and humanrights, migration and security. Sometimes law, economy, and policy fail to provide the answers, yet governance has always the ability to give an explanation and solutions. In addition, the most valuable part of the programme is the people. This year the programme brought together young diplomats, and professionals from more than 20 countries. Everyone enriches and makes a significant contribution to the development of the programme by sharing their experience and knowledge.
